The extension gives you instant access to your WordFields templates and snippets from any browser tab. Open it in Gmail to insert an email template, in a helpdesk tool to paste a support reply, or anywhere else you write. It also lets you open document templates, fill them out, and download completed Word or Excel files without switching tabs.
The extension uses "activeTab" permission, which means it only accesses the tab you're actively using when you click its icon. It doesn't read your browsing history, doesn't access other tabs, and doesn't run in the background. Your data stays yours.
Yes – the extension works in Gmail, Outlook Web, and any other web-based email client. It also works in helpdesk tools like Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom, and any other tool that runs in your browser. If you can write text in a browser tab, the extension can insert templates there.
You can install the extension without an account, but you'll need a free WordFields account to create templates and use them. Create a free account – it takes about 30 seconds and doesn't require a credit card.
Your templates are stored in your WordFields workspace with encrypted storage and role-based access controls. The extension accesses them through authenticated API calls – it doesn't store sensitive data locally. Team workspaces let you control exactly who can view or edit each template.
No. The data you fill into templates – names, dates, amounts, contract details, and anything else – is processed to generate the document or snippet, then discarded. It is never written to a database and does not persist on our servers. The same applies to the documents themselves: they are streamed directly to your device and we do not retain a copy. The only thing stored is the template itself.
No. The extension only activates when you click its icon – it doesn't run continuously in the background. Your browser performance is unaffected when you're not using it.
Right-click the extension icon and select "Remove from Chrome" (or Edge). Your WordFields account and templates stay intact – you can reinstall the extension later or use WordFields directly from the web app.
The extension is free, and the WordFields free plan covers personal use with no time limit. Paid plans add team workspaces, shared templates, and advanced features. See pricing.
